The real commercial heart of the old city of Arad, the “Boul Ro?u” Inn was built in the first part of the 19th century and played an important role in the development of the city. Its name is reminiscent of the famous cattle fair that used to take place in the square of the same name. The inn housed merchants and producers who came for various fairs that usually took place in Avram Iancu Square and Cathedral Square. At the ground floor of the building there was a luxurious restaurant, the upstairs part functioned as a hotel, and behind the building were stables for the animals of those who stopped at the inn. Throughout its history of almost 200 years, the building has played a major role in the social, commercial, cultural and political life of the city. In 1890, the 1st of May was celebrated for the first time in Romania, here, at the inn, and until the end of the Second World War, important cultural events took place here as well. From an architectural point of view, the building was built in an eclectic style and still retains the beauty of its richly decorated façade. The ornamental decorations, the window frames and the corner tower are the distinctive elements of the building that every resident recognizes from first glance. Nowadays, “Boul Ro?u” continues the commercial and tourist tradition left as legacy and is offering a total buitl area of 5,526 sqm on a very generous 7,043 sqm land plot that makes it very attractive.
