Local Expertise. Global Connections.
I have had a life-long fascination with architecture, in particular the mansions built during the so-called Gilded Age for amongst others, the Vanderbilts and the Astors on New York’s Fifth Avenue, and their “summer cottages” in Newport. These monuments, or shrines, to celebrate and show off immense wealth by means of excess, could be very ‘inspirational’ to a certain extent in modern times.
For a realtor with a sharp eye, it is easy to identify excess in good taste, and to compile a marketing plan which allows for creative thinking. These are the challenges which make the life of an estate agent exciting.
Having lived in Stellenbosch for over 30 years, I have had the pleasure of selling real estate in Stellenbosch for the past 10 years. To me it is an honour and a wonderful challenge to have also been involved with a German realty company, as well as an American company before joining Sotheby’s. It is very comforting to be able to work with like-minded colleagues and the knowledge of international support during this time.
During a lengthy, previous tenure in the world of book publishing I had the privilege of frequent travels overseas. And always it was the architecture and lifestyle in Europe that served as an inspiration. Especially now, in my second life, under the expert guidance and nurturing of the Sotheby’s philosophy, it serves me well.
